Root Cause
The Sufficiency Foundation defines working on the root cause as:
- Identifying and articulating an arena of concern.
- Identifying the primary obstacle(s) to transformation in this arena.
- Standing in the new paradigm.
- Acting from profound awareness of the existing state of the world and ongoing engagement in discovering what is missing, the presence of which would make a difference.
- Empowering all levels of people, places and organizations.
- Operating at “the heart of the matter” and “on the front line.”
Effective
The Sufficiency Foundation defines an effective organization as:
- Achieving stunning results.
- Keenly and rigorously measuring its impact.
- Open to working with other organizations for the greater good.
- Having empowering communication systems for all staff, volunteers, board members and consultants.
- Attracting and leveraging a large group of active and powerful volunteers who serve as a monument to the work being done, including fundraising.
Inclusive
The Sufficiency Foundation defines inclusiveness as:
- Being at work to transform the fundamental context of its area of concern.
- Operating in “no position” or fixed view, thereby open to non-competitive partnership.
- Working for a world that works for everyone with no one and nothing left out.
Transparent
The Sufficiency Foundation defines transparency as:
- A clear purpose.
- All administration, work and documents communicated from sufficiency.
- Sound corporate governance and practices.
- Open records and operations.
- Contributions of all constituents are honored; all have ownership in results produced.
- Operating in a context of humility and service.

The average annual pledge of the first twenty people who participated in pledging to the Sufficiency Foundation was $5,000. If every new group of ten people pledges $5,000 and keeps increasing their pledges as they get more power in sufficiency with money, together we can make great strides toward a sufficient world in a few years.
